How to weigh a dog at home
- Small dogs: weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding your dog, and subtract.
- Bigger dogs: ask your vet clinic whether you can use their scale between visits. Some pet stores have walk-on scales too.
- Keep it consistent: the same scale and the same time of day make the numbers comparable.
If your dog’s weight changes and you don’t know why, ask your vet. Keep the rest of their records in the dog health record.
Questions people ask
How often should I weigh my dog?
Choose a regular rhythm and keep to it. Many owners weigh monthly; your vet may suggest more often for a puppy or during a diet change.
Pounds or kilograms?
Either. Write the unit at the top so everyone reads the numbers the same way.
Does this tell me my dog’s healthy weight?
No. It records weights only. Ask your vet for a healthy range for your dog.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The page has no form and stores nothing. Print it or save it as a PDF before you close the page.
